Think of LinkedIn as a huge, always-on networking event, where you can meet and mingle with almost any professional in the world. It’s powerful.
This also means that your company’s employees have free reign to post, comment, share, like and interact with anyone and their content. This is a blessing and a potential curse.
For now I’ll avoid the potential pitfalls and jump ahead to the upside, if you don’t mind.
To get the most from the awesome platform which is LinkedIn, one needs to engage with others’ posts and articles. What I mean is you need to hit that like button. Comment on the content and add your opinion. Ask questions and give advice. If you find a particular post valuable or helpful, share it, so that more people can get some value.
By doing this, you’re achieving at least the following 3 things:
- You’re building your personal brand, by becoming visible online
- You’re demonstrating your expertise and experience, improving your reputation
- You’re building leverage within your network – which you can use when you need something – like a referral or recommendation, or asking for a sale.
By being helpful online, and adding value to other people in your network, people will start recognizing your name, start trusting you as an expert and will be more likely to connect with you – opening the door to job opportunities, sales opportunities and a strong personal and professional reputation within your industry.
